This is Jake with Friends First. I’m here with Delmar Quianna and Mecca. We’re going to have a nice talk about family.

What I love about my mom is she’s funny. She always make me laugh and she’s the nicest mom I’ve ever had

Jake: Delmar tell me about you first and then tell me how your mom inspires you.

Delmar: Well, I’m 16 years old. I go to Park High School. I’ll be a junior. I like to play sports. My love football and my favorite thing to do is eat, relax play video games and watch wrestling on TV.  What I love about my mom is she’s funny. She always make me laugh and she’s the nicest mom I’ve ever had. And I love her.

Jake: That’s awesome. And this man here (indicating Delmar’s step father to be Mecca) tell me about him.

Well, I love that he (Mecca) makes my mom happy because I’ve never seen her this happy before in her life.

Delmar: Well, I love that he (Mecca) makes my mom happy because I’ve never seen her this happy before in her life. It makes me so happy that she found the right one and it was God who did it. I see a father figure he’s such a good person. He always talks to me and he’s always there for me. I can ask him anything.

Jake: Quianna tell me about your son Delmar.

Quianna: Well, I call him my Sunshine because when I first met him the Sun was shining on him. He’s a good kid and just needs a little bit of guidance. It’s scary sometimes for us trying to mold him in the right direction. Thank God I have help now cuz it’s difficult trying to figure out what’s going on in a young man’s mind. I love him something something terrible. I love him a lot.

I met Delmar the day he was born on June 15th 2003 and he came home with me July 7th. I’ve always supported Delmar and his birth mother having a relationship but she does own thing and I’m his mom. She just knew she couldn’t take care of him and she knew that I couldn’t have children. So we met at church and we formed a friendship and that’s how that came to be.

He’s very smart though and very loving. He just needs a little bit more guidance to reach that point of maturity where I’m comfortable with him making decisions.

What I love about Delmar is that he likes to make people happy. He may not go about it in the right way sometimes though. I need him to be a leader and stand on its own and make the right decisions. He’s very smart though and very loving. He just needs a little bit more guidance to reach that point of maturity where I’m comfortable with him making decisions. He’s an A/B student and National Honor Society. Now I want him to develop that street smarts as well.

Jake: This recording is going to survive a long time and it will probably outlast us. So for the record what do you want Delmar to know from you. Talk to your son.

Everything that I’ve ever done has always been for you. I’m not going to be here forever and I just want you to make it.

Quianna: I want you to understand (emotional) that everything that I do, that I am, was to prepare you. Everything that I’ve ever done has always been for you. I’m not going to be here forever and I just want you to make it. Prove all the naysayers wrong and shine!  If you could do that for me, now and maybe even after I’m gone it would be awesome. You are at the cusp of what you need to be. You’re right there. If you just push a little bit further you will be fine. Do you understand what I’m saying to you?

Delmar: I understand mom (emotional).

Quianna: You know, I believe in you, right? Like for reals, you know that right I know you do cuz I tell you all the time.

Delmar: Yes. I love you mom.

Quianna: I love you, too son.

You know, I believe in you, right? Like for reals.

Jake: Beautiful well done family. Thank you.
